Range of Services
Implantology/Oral Surgery
Most oral surgery is performed under local anaesthesia. However, on special request these interventions can be performed under general anaesthesia.
These are the most commonly performed types of surgery:
- bone augmentation/bone graft
- sinus lift
- extraction of impacted teeth
- apicoectomy (root end surgery)
- treatment of cysts
- ligation of impacted teeth
- soft tissue surgery
- treatment of dental trauma
- TMJ (temporal mandibular joint) treatment
- oral mucosa treatment
IMPLANTOLOGY
- Implants
Dental implants are an aesthetic and functional high-quality substitute for extracted teeth. Implants are firmly incorporated into the jaw bone and are therefore a solid basis for crowns, bridges and prostheses.
Further, implant therapy avoids smoothing and drilling of adjacent healthy teeth. The size of the gap determines the number of implants used.
- Edentulous Jaws
In patients with completely toothless jaws we use implants to fasten entire dentures firmly to the jaw or fix removable prostheses onto the implants. Compared to the classical, removable prosthesis, these options offer not only aesthetic, but especially functional advantages. The gums are no longer covered by the prosthesis and the patient can thus eat all types of food and enjoy its taste. Wearing an implant-borne prosthesis avoids painful pressure points, since the prosthesis is fixed onto the implants and stays immobile.
- Computer-assisted Implantology
Our high-tech diagnosis enables us to establish a detailed schedule of each step of the treatment. State of the art technology and innovative methods are also an important contribution to this schedule and substantially determine the outcome of the treatment. Computer-assisted, true-to-life illustrations and progressive X-ray techniques supply specific information, enabling the dentist to choose an individual treatment method.
WISDOM TEETH
Do wisdom teeth really need to be extracted?
Wisdom teeth usually come through in the upper and lower jaw between the age of 16 and 20. A lot of times there is insufficient space in the jaw and the wisdom teeth cannot fit correctly into the row of teeth. This can lead to various types of teething problems or a displacement of the wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth that have only incompletely broken through can lead to various discomforts and illnesses. Where appropriate, the medical practitioner may advise to extract the wisdom teeth.
Orthodontics
What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a specialty area of dental medicine, dealing with the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of tooth and jaw misalignments. The appliances and devices used in orthodontics are often called “braces” or “brackets”. We distinguish between removable, fixed and invisible braces.
Initial Examination
The orthodontic treatment starts with a simple assessment and recommendation (first consultation). The orthodontist explains to the patient and/or to the parents, whether a treatment is necessary for orthodontic (medical) and/or aesthetic reasons.
Documents
If you decide to follow a treatment, we compile a detailed documentation of the tooth alignment and facial structure. This documentation is used to establish the exact analysis, treatment plan and history of the problem. This enables us to discuss the treatment in greater detail and to prepare an estimate.
Plaster models of the upper and lower jaw, X-rays (e.g. global X-rays and lateral head films), facial and dental photos are elements needed to establish the estimate. The orthodontist uses this information along with the data from the initial examination to establish an individual treatment plan.
Patient/Parent Consultation
During the patient/parent consultation the orthodontist explains the reasons for the needed treatment, which orthodontic appliances he will use for the different treatment steps and informs the patient/parents about the approximate duration of the treatment. The patients and parents receive written and/or verbal notification of the cost of both the different treatment steps and of the complete treatment.
Patients’ Age
Orthodontic treatments can be used on almost any age group – children, youths and adults. When signs of tooth and jaw malformations are detected, an orthodontic consultation is recommended as of the age of nine. Adults can be treated at any age. An orthodontic-surgical treatment may be necessary on patients with extreme skeletal jaw deformities.
Fixed Appliances
Orthodontic devices that cannot be removed by the patient are called fixed appliances.
The so-called brackets are used on all types of tooth misalignments. Example:
- Speed Brackets
- Ceramic Brackets
- Palatal arch with palate implant, expanding device, lingual arch
Removable Appliances
Removable appliances include devices that can be removed by the patient at particular occasions such as meal-times, for cleaning etc. These appliances are frequently used when treating children and youths. Example: Headgear, Monoblock, intra-oral plate
“Invisible Braces”
These transparent appliances are used to invisibly correct minor misalignments of the teeth without impeding speech.
Treatment Costs
Our tax point value for orthodontic treatments is Fr. 3.10. Treatments are invoiced separately all along the treatment process and are detailed according to SSO-rates. We also offer payment in instalments. The cost of each treatment depends primarily on the degree of the misalignment and the required individual attention for the correction.
Dentistry
Crowns and Bridges
When the major part of a tooth is damaged, it is replaced by a ceramic crown , which is attached to the remainder of the tooth (tooth stump). Crowns can also be manufactured using gold compounds, especially those used on the occlusal surface in the invisible part of the jaw. During the consultation, the dentist determines which material is appropriate for each individual treatment. Gaps in teeth must be closed to maintain correct mastication. The classic bridge is based on the same principle as the crown. However, bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge is fastened to the adjacent teeth and ceramic bridges are again the most elegant solution in this matter.
Fillings
Fillings are used when the hard substance of a tooth must be replaced because of decay or other damage. The dentist uses a variety of different materials for fillings.
Endodontics (Root Treatment)
Bacteria progressing into the deeper areas of a tooth (e.g. due to tooth decay) may cause the tooth to become infected and cause severe toothache. Root treatment is used to preserve the tooth. The affected areas deep in the tooth are entirely disinfected and then sealed.
Dental Hygiene
Regular dental hygiene is often used prior to a treatment, since dental aesthetics cannot be achieved without healthy gums. We recommend regular, professional dental hygiene carried out by our dental hygienist. An impeccable oral hygiene can only be achieved by following specific instructions and using additional cleaning tools.
